Copyright and DMCA policy

How XDownloader handles copyright complaints, what a valid DMCA notice must include, and why reporting the post to X removes it from this tool too.

Last updated · Published by XDownloader

We respect copyright and expect people using XDownloader to do the same. This page explains what the service holds, which remedy actually works, and what a notice to us needs to contain.

What this service hosts

Nothing. XDownloader keeps no videos, GIFs, photos or broadcasts. When someone submits a link, our service reads the post's public details from X and streams the file from X's servers to that person's browser as it arrives. Broadcast replays are converted to MP4 inside the visitor's own browser. No copy is written to our storage, and there is no library, index or archive of media to remove anything from.

If your content was copied

If someone saved your video here and re-posted it elsewhere, the infringement is that re-publication, not the download. The steps that work:

  1. Report the copy where it is hosted. Every major platform has a copyright process and has to act on valid notices.
  2. Report the re-upload to X through its copyright form if the copy is on X.
  3. Protect your account if you want to stop further copies. Posts from protected accounts can't be fetched by this tool at all.

Sending a notice to us

If you believe XDownloader is being used to infringe your copyright and you want us to act, send a written notice containing all of the following:

  • Your physical or electronic signature.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work you say is being infringed.
  • The specific X post or broadcast links at issue, precise enough for us to find them. A profile link is not enough.
  • Your name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
  • A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on the owner's behalf.

Send it to hello@xdownloader.dev with the subject "Copyright notice". That link opens an email with these headings already filled in. We review every complete notice. Where we can act, for example by refusing lookups for the specific posts you name, we will, and we will tell you what we did.

What we can't do

  • Remove a post from X. Only X can do that. Use X's copyright form.
  • Remove copies hosted elsewhere. Nothing is stored here, so there is nothing on our side to take down. The host of the copy is the place to file.
  • Retrieve files from people's devices, or tell you who downloaded a post. We keep no record of who looked up what.

A notice missing any of the elements above can't be acted on, so please check it before sending.

False notices

Knowingly misrepresenting that material is infringing can make you liable for damages, including costs and legal fees, under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f) and similar laws elsewhere. Please be sure of your claim before you send it.

Counter-notices

If lookups for a post were blocked because of a notice and you believe that was a mistake or misidentification, you can send a counter-notice to the same address. Include your signature, the post links that were blocked, a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe they were blocked by mistake or misidentification, your name, address and telephone number, and your consent to the jurisdiction of the appropriate court. We will pass it to the person who sent the original notice.

Repeat infringement

We may block access from addresses used for repeated or abusive infringing activity, as the acceptable use terms allow.
