Terms of Service – XDownloader

These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and XDownloader ("we", "us") about your use of xdownloader.dev and the downloader it provides (the "Service"). By using the Service you accept them. If you don't, please don't use it.

What the service is

XDownloader is a free tool that saves media from public posts on X (formerly Twitter). You paste a link and it returns the files X already serves to any logged-out visitor: videos and GIFs as MP4, and photos at the largest size X publishes. Broadcast replays are converted to MP4 inside your own browser. There is no account, no payment and nothing to install.

The Service gives you the technical means to save a file. It does not get around any access control, and it does not give you any rights to what you save.

Who may use it

You must be at least 13, and old enough to enter a binding agreement where you live. If you use the Service for an organisation, you confirm you are allowed to accept these Terms for it.

Acceptable use

You may use the Service to:

save media from your own X posts;
keep publicly posted media for personal, offline viewing;
download content you have the rights holder's permission to use.

You may not use it to:

republish, redistribute or monetise someone else's content without permission or a licence;
infringe copyright, trademark, privacy or publicity rights;
harass, defame or track anyone, collect media about a person without their consent, or create misleading or non-consensual content, including sexual imagery of any person and any material involving minors;
try to reach private, protected, age-restricted or deleted content, or get around any access control;
send automated, scripted or bulk requests, scrape the Service, resell it, or present it as your own API or product;
probe, overload or disrupt the Service or the systems it runs on;
break X's terms or any law that applies to you.

We may block requests, limit access, or refuse specific links where we reasonably believe this section is being broken.

Is downloading X videos legal?

It is the question we are asked most, and the honest answer is that it depends on what you download and what you do with it.

Keeping a public video to watch offline, to keep a record, or to study it is treated as lawful personal use in many countries, often under fair use, fair dealing or a private-copying exception. Re-uploading it as your own, using it in an advert or monetised content, or redistributing it is a different matter, and without the rights holder's permission it will usually infringe copyright.

Copyright law differs between countries and nothing here is legal advice; if the stakes matter, ask a lawyer where you live. Separately from copyright, X's Terms of Service govern your relationship with X and set their own limits on what you may do with content from the platform.

Copyright and creators

Everything you save through the Service belongs to whoever made it. Downloading grants no licence, assignment or permission. If you want to share something you didn't make, ask first and credit the original account. A native repost, quote or embed is usually the better choice: it keeps the attribution and sends the engagement to the creator.

XDownloader stores no media. If you believe the Service is being used to infringe your rights, the copyright policy explains what a valid notice must contain, where to send it, and why reporting the post to X usually works faster.

What the service can't do

Private content. Protected accounts, direct messages, age-restricted posts and deleted posts can't be fetched.
Spaces. X Spaces are live audio rooms, and the Service doesn't download them.
Live broadcasts. A broadcast can be saved once it has ended and X offers a replay, not while it is still live.
Better than the source. The best quality available is the best X serves. Nothing is upscaled or enhanced.
Frame-exact broadcast clips. Clips are cut without re-encoding, so they begin on the nearest key frame at or before the start time you choose and can run a second or two longer.
Old broadcast results. The links for a broadcast result stop working after about six hours. Look the broadcast up again to continue.

Relationship to X Corp.

XDownloader is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by X Corp. "X", "Twitter" and related marks are trademarks of X Corp., used here only to describe what the Service works with. Your use of X itself is governed by X's own terms.

Availability and changes

The Service is free and provided on a best-effort basis, with no uptime commitment. It depends on how X serves its own content, which X can change without notice, so lookups can stop working until we update the Service. We may change, limit, suspend or discontinue any part of it at any time.

Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express, implied or statutory, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that any particular link can be processed.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent the law allows, XDownloader and the people who run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages, or for lost profits, data, goodwill or business, arising from your use of the Service or of anything you obtain through it, on any legal theory, even if we were told such damage was possible.

Because the Service is free, our total liability for all claims is limited to USD 50. Some places don't allow these exclusions or limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless XDownloader and the people who run it against any third-party claim, loss or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your use of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or your infringement of anyone's rights, including through what you do with downloaded content.

Termination

There is no account, so you can stop at any time by not using the Service. We may restrict or block access without notice if we reasonably believe you have broken these Terms or your use puts us, other users or third parties at risk. The sections on copyright, warranties, liability, indemnification and governing law survive termination.

Governing law

These Terms and any dispute about them are governed by the laws of the operator's principal place of business, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, and any right it gives you to bring proceedings there.

Severability and entire agreement

If any provision is found unenforceable, it is limited or removed only as far as necessary and the rest stays in force. Not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, the Privacy Policy and the copyright policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. You may not assign your rights under them; we may assign ours if the project changes hands.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these Terms as the Service or the law changes, and the "Last updated" date at the top changes with them. Continuing to use the Service after a revision means you accept it. If you don't, stop using the Service.

Is it legal to download videos from X (Twitter)?

Saving a publicly posted video for your own private viewing is treated as lawful personal use in many countries, often under fair use, fair dealing or a private-copying exception. Can I use downloaded X videos commercially?

Only if you own the video or have the rights holder's permission. A clean, watermark-free file does not come with a licence, and commercial reuse without permission risks copyright infringement.

Does XDownloader work with private or protected accounts?

No. It only reaches what X already serves publicly to logged-out visitors. Protected accounts, direct messages, age-restricted and deleted posts are out of reach, and the service does not bypass any restriction.

How do I report a copyright issue?

Our copyright policy lists what a valid notice must contain and where to send it. Because XDownloader stores no media, reporting the post to X is usually the fastest way to have it removed everywhere.
