Why downloading beats taking a screenshot
A screenshot records the screen, not the photograph. Its resolution is limited by your display, the image may already be scaled down to fit the timeline, and every visible interface element has to be cropped away afterwards. On a phone, landscape photos lose especially large amounts of detail because only a narrow version is visible at once.
An X photo downloader works from the post itself. It identifies the image resource attached to that post and asks for the highest version X makes publicly available. The result is a clean file with no buttons, captions, profile picture, notification bar, or black padding around it.
This distinction matters when the image contains small text, illustration details, charts, artwork, or anything you intend to crop later. Once pixels are discarded by a screenshot, sharpening cannot bring them back.

Download every image in a multi-photo post
X supports galleries containing several images, but the timeline presents them as a compact grid. Saving that grid with a screenshot permanently combines the photos, crops each one to fit its tile, and throws away most of the available resolution.
Paste the status link here and each attachment becomes its own result—Image 1, Image 2, and so on. You decide which files to keep. The order follows the original post, making it straightforward to preserve a sequence such as a comic, tutorial, product gallery, or before-and-after set.
JPG, PNG, dimensions, and image quality
Most photographs from X download as JPG because that format compresses complex colour efficiently. Images that X provides as PNG remain PNG, which is useful for graphics with sharp text, flat colour, or transparency. The result buttons show the output format before you save.
“Original quality” means the highest rendition X exposes for the public post—not necessarily the untouched file that once left the creator's camera. X may resize or recompress uploads during publishing. A downloader cannot reverse changes the platform already made, but it can avoid degrading the image again. XDownloader does not enlarge the file, apply filters, sharpen it, or convert it through another lossy cycle.
Where X photo downloads are saved
iPhone and iPad
Safari normally puts browser downloads in Files → Browse → Downloads, under iCloud Drive or On My iPhone depending on your setting. Open the image, tap Share, and choose Save Image to copy it into Photos. Saving to Files first is useful when you want to keep research or project assets away from your camera roll.
Android phones and tablets
The browser writes the file to Downloads. Open it from the completion notification or through Files/My Files. Google Photos and manufacturer gallery apps usually find new images automatically; refresh the gallery or open the file once if indexing is delayed.
Desktop computers and Chromebooks
Images go to the browser's configured Downloads folder. Turn on “ask where to save each file” if you want every photo to go directly into a named research, design, or editing folder.
Useful reasons to save the image file
Creators can archive their own uploads, social teams can preserve approved campaign assets, researchers can retain public visual material with its source URL, and designers can gather references without contaminating them with interface pixels. A downloaded photo also works better as an editing source because it retains the available dimensions and aspect ratio.

Troubleshooting photo posts
No images appear after processing
Make sure you copied the individual status URL. Profile pages, media tabs, search results, and shortened links that no longer resolve do not identify one image set. Test the link in a signed-out private window; if the post is invisible there, it is protected or restricted.
The saved image seems smaller than expected
The creator may have uploaded a small file, or X may have resized it during publishing. Compare the dimensions rather than the zoom level shown by your image viewer. Enlarging a small download would add pixels but not real detail.
The file is in Downloads but not Photos
Browser downloads and photo libraries are separate on iOS. Open the file in Files, use Share, and select Save Image. On Android, allow the gallery a moment to index the Downloads folder or move the file into Pictures.
One image from the gallery is missing
Refresh the source post and confirm the attachment still loads publicly. A removed or unavailable attachment cannot be recovered from the remaining thumbnails.
Privacy and responsible image use
You do not create an account, and XDownloader does not build a gallery or history from the files you request. Read the Privacy Policy for a precise description of request handling.
A public image is still somebody's work. Downloading it does not grant a licence to remove attribution, sell it, impersonate its creator, or publish it in a new context. Save your own images freely; for somebody else's work, obtain permission, retain credit, and use X's native repost or quote features when your goal is simply to share.
